Kukeri is a traditional pagan Bulgarian ritual. The idea is masked men to scare away evil spirits with dances and loud sounds of bells. The costumes of men cover most of the body and include decorated wooden masks of animals (sometimes double-faced) and large bells attached to the belt.
The festival is held around New Year and before Lent in many Bulgarian towns and villages but this in village of Kalipetrovo (known also as Kukovden or Kukerlandia) is National and is one of the most popular.
