National Museum of Education
The National Museum of Education is located in town of Gabrovo, in the building of the "Aprilov High-School" (constructed in 1873). The museum was created in 1974 and aims to keep the history of Bulgarian education and to show its development until today.
The museum funds includes over 6,000 artifacts, some of them exhibited in five halls with total area around 440m2.
In the first hall are exposed materials related to the Bulgarian education from period of creating of writing in Bulgaria (IX century), during the periods of the bloom of Bulgarian state and then in period of its decline during the centuries of Ottoman rule till the Renaissance period (beginning of XIX century).
In the Second Hall is traced the development of Bulgarian education during the years of the Renaissance to the liberation from Ottoman rule (1878)
In the other two halls are exhibited objects related to the Bulgarian school in period after liberation to the end of XX century.
The last room is reconstructed as a classroom from the past.
Among the most valuable exhibits in the museum are: original documents from the IX century, created in the old capitals Pliska and Preslav; editions of the famous "Riben Bukvar"; collection of Bulgarian books from the Renaissance to our days; appliances in physics from the end of XIX century; and others.
The museum has also a specialized library with over 30,000 volumes, photo-laboratory, audiovisual studio, room for temporary exhibitions, a video-hall.
