In town of Pordim was open a museum dedicated to the Russian army, which during the Russo-Turkish war (1877-1878) had had a Headquarter here. In the period from 26 October to 10 December 1877 the Russian headquarter in Pordim have taken very strategic decisions related to the war - The Siege of Pleven, The Winter passing of the Balkan mountain, the variant of San-Stefano peace treaty and others.

For various periods in the city have stayed the Russian emperor Alexander II, the commander of the Danube Russian army Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich, the Romanian Prince Carol I (see Museum "His Royal Majesty, Carol I"), prominent Russian generals (Earl N.Ignatiev, Gen. N. Obruchev, Gen. Milyutin, Gen. Totleben, Gen.Y.Gurko, and others).

The exposition is situated in a house built in the period 1862-1865 where the headquarter was located. In 1904 the Military Ministry have bought the building and in 1907 the Museum is founded.

The exhibition shows the activities of the headquarters of the Russian army and its commander - Prince Nikolai Nikolaevich. Special attention is given to the participation and the role of the Russian artillery in the war. Among the exhibits are photos, documents and objects from that period, as well as restored guns and cannons used in the battles.

The entrance to the Museum is free and includes a guide.
