Historical Museum of Teteven was founded in 1911 by Michal Koychev from Teteven. In 1932 the museum was relocated to own building - a home-memorial, built in honor of local people died for the freedom of Bulgaria. Here was placed the first museum collection, Later, in 1974, the museum was expanded a new exhibition was created. It was related with the history of the town from the ancient times till the liberation from the Ottoman rule.
Currently the Historical Museum has three main exposures - Archaeology, Ethnography and Vazrajdane (Renaissance) and a fund with about 4600 exhibits.
Exposures:
- Archeology - shows instruments from the late Paleolithic and Neolithic period, findings which reveal the material and spiritual culture of the Thracians
- Ethnography - shows objects of everyday life, clothing, costumes, embroidery, tools and crafts typical for the Teteven region - carving, weaving, goldsmiths.
- Vazrajdane (Revival) - there are exhibited photos, documents, medals and personal belongings of the local people involved in the national liberation struggles.
The History Museum of Teteven is included in the list of 100 National Tourist Sites of Bulgaria.
