One of the last discovered strongholds in Bulgaria is Farmakida (from Greek - healer). It is located near town of Primorsko, in the dense forest of the Ropotamo river, on a hill above a bend of the river. It has occupied an area of about three acres. Farmakida is considered an ancient predecessor of Primorsko.
The castle was naturally protected and inaccessible for attackers because the steep cliffs surrounding it on three sides. The only access was via narrow path but there was erected a powerful tower, to guard the approach.
During archaeological researches were discovered part of the fortress wall, tiled houses, and an unusual stone circle in whose center were found strange Thracian ceramic urns decorated with reliefs of bull heads. At the site were found also silver coins from the neighbour Apollonia and from the ancient city-state Maroneia at Marmara sea.
