Fortrtess Neocastro
The remains of the fortress Neocastro (aka "Novgrad" or "Novograd") can be found 1 kilometer north - east from the village Novgrad (Tsenovo municipality), on the hill Kelebair, at the left bank of Yantra River, front of the bridge to village of Krivina.
It was built on a high place, difficult to be reached and the only entrance to the fortress was from east, where a high fortress wall and moat were built. The castle has an irregular triangular shape with the widest part of the East, following the configuration of the terrain, with a length of 200 m and a width of 96 m. From south of the castle goes deep ravine.
The fortress of Novograd was captured by the Turkish in 1388 during the march of the 30 thousand Ali pasha` s army on the north of the Old Mountain. The Turkish army became so furious with the resistance of the fortress that they killed most of the population and practically destroyed the fortress. The few Bulgarians, who managed to escape, build a new village around the ruins of the fortress, which was named after the fortress - Novgrad.
