The Granitsa fortress was part of the defense ring around town of Velbajd and its role was to control the road Velbuzhd - Shtip. The fortress was built by stones, joined with white
mortar. Its shape is not quite defined, but the presence of round towers had been established.
Near the fortress the monastery of Saint Luke (X century) is located.
