Regional History Museum
The Regional Historical Museum in town of Shumen is the successor to the created in 1857 by Sava Dobroplodni a school museum collection. The museum fund has over 150,000 objects from the period of the Chalcolithic to the present day and around 15 000 of them are shown in the museum exhibition halls:
- Prehistory - there are exposed ceramic pottery and stone objects (shapes, tools, etc..) found in the region and dating-back to 6000-5000 BC
- Antiquity - there are antique items - parts of clothing, frescoes, fragments of tombs, tools, etc.. dating to the last centuries BC and first centuries of the new millennium AD
- The Middle Ages - exhibits related to the First and Second Bulgarian Kingdoms
- Renaissance - the exposure is associated with the life of people in region during the XIX century and crafts & arts in same period. There are photos, original documents and manuscripts, costumes, jewelry, pottery and more.
- Christian culture - this exposure is devoted to the Christianity in these lands in period XVII - XIX century. There are exhibited different icons and ecclesiastical objects.
- The treasury - in this hall are exposed jewelry and coins from the treasure and examined historical sites found in the region.
The museum offers guided tours in English, French, German, Russian, Czech and Turkish.
