Neophyt Rilski (real name Nichola Benin) is a prominent Bulgarian educator - a monk, teacher and artist - one of the patriarchs of the Bulgarian education and enlightenment. He was born in 1793 in town of Bansko and teaches iconography here - in the Bansko School of Art Thomas Vishanov-Molera. He works in the Rila Monastery, where later he became a monk. Neofit Rilski is the author of the first Bulgarian grammar (1835). He died in 1811.
Today, his birth-house in town of Bansko has transformed into a house-museum "Neophyte Rilski" (also known as "Beninata House"). It is a typical example of Bansko architecture from the late XVIII - early XIX century and was declared an architectural and historical monument.
