The Tomb in Borovo (full name "Tomb of Getti aristocrat from the IV century BC") is located in the town center (near "St. Kliment Ohridski" school). It is one of the most popular and visited tourist attractions in the municipality.
History:
In 1974, in the "Sivri Tepe" locality, 2-3 km northwestern of town of Borovo (then still a village), was found a very valuable silver Thracian treasure (The Borovo Silver treasure). This provokes the interest of scientists and they started excavation and study of the mounds in the region of Borovo.
In 1995, in one of the mounds in the locality "4 mounds" (4 km . north of Borovo, near the village of Volovo) was revealed masonry facility. Unfortunately, except the researchers, there is 'interest' to the mounds from the treasure-hunters. Experts from Rousse Historical Museum did rescue works, and in 1996 the burial facility is excavated and open for visitors. The tomb has been studied and identified as "from Macedonian type", built from well manufactured limestone blocks.
The danger from treasure-hunters forcing the archaeologists to re-cover the site with earth. In 2007 Borovo municipality asking RIM - Ruse for help to move the facility within borders of the city and turn it into a tourist attraction. For this purpose was performed an unique for Bulgaria operation of disassembly, transportation and assembly again of the stone structure.
There are plans the tomb to be a part of an archaeological complex where a copy of Borovo Silver Treasure to be kept too.
