Near the village of Stoyanovo (Ardino municipality) were found traces of earlier cult activity dating back to the Late Bronze Age. The sanctuary is located on Mount Karaburun (from Turkish "Black Cape") which is 1027 m. in height. The peak is located on the watershed between the rivers Malka Arda and Arda, shortly before the two rivers to flow into one. From the area there is a great view to almost entire Central and Eastern parts of the Rhodopes mountains. Due its strategic location in V-VI century here was built an early Byzantine fortress, from which currently has revealed portions of a stone building foundations and walls.
