The remains of fortress of Zaldapa are located in the locality of "Kaleto" between the villages of Abrit and Dobrin. It was one of the best fortified castles (different from the ancient town of Abritus) in the lands of Dobruja region. It is known also as Abtaatskoto kale, Kaz kale, Dobrin kale, Dobri kale and Hisar kale and its name means cold or yellow water. The village was founded by the Thracian tribe Obulenzi around the 8th century BC.
The ancient centre was naturally protected from the East, North and Northwest by a deep valley, and from the West and Southwest, from the short side. It was disposed at teritory approximately 1200 x 500 meters, south of the present village of Abrit. The northern part is mostly flat, while the southern is broader and hilly. Here was built the main fortress wall, for protection of the ancient city.
Testimonies of late-roman origin of the fortification wall are the majestic scale of Zaldapa (over 35 hectares) and the monumental character of its constructions.
The wall has had a total of 32 towers with different shapes and sizes, 3 main and 2 secondary gates. The north Gate has been doubled and represents a complex structure involving the isolation and disabling trapped the attackers managed to pass through the first urban neck.
The city suspended its existence after the invasions in the VII-th century.
