Historical and archaeological reserve of "Sboryanovo"
Historical and archaeological reserve "Sboryanovo" is located in the lands of municipality Isperih, in the western part of Ludogorsko plateau. The reserve is located 10 kilometers away of the town of Isperih, west of the village of Sveshtari and north of the village of Malak Porovets, in the canyon of Krapinetz river and hills around.
The history of the region begins since the ancient times when it was inhabited by the Thracian tribes Getty. They had created a city on an area over 100 000m2. It was well fortified and surrounded by a double wall, around 4 m wide and 10 m high. The town was a political, cultural and religious center. In the next centuries, the region continues to be a place where many religious sites are constructed, both - new and based on the ruins of existing.
Currently the reserve includes more than 140 archaeological and cultural monuments - the remains of ancient settlements, 5 large necropolis with 120 tombs, cultural and religious Thracian, Christian and Muslim complexes. Among the most interesting and important objects are:
- ruins of the ancient Thracian town of Helis
- Thracian sanctuary of "Kamen Rid"
- The Sveshtari tomb - included in UNESCO list for World heritages because of its remarkable architecture and picturesque decoration
- The Muslim shrine Demir Baba Tekke, venerated today by the Muslims alevii, and people from other religions as a sacred place;
- The early medieval settlements "Byuven kasaba" and "Petrova niva".
"Sboryanovo" was declared a historical and archaeological reserve in 1988 and is listed under number 49 in the list of "Hundred tourist site of the Bulgarian Tourist Union".
