Thracian fortress and sanctuary in the "Asar kaya" locality
Type: Sanctuary, Archaeological site
Location: Village Jenda »
In Bulgarian: Тракийска крепост и светилище в местност "Асар кая" »
In the "Asar Kaya" (Buyuk Tepe) locality, about 1.6 km south of the village Jenda, are located the remains of a Thracian fortress and sanctuary. The castle was situated on a high ledge and was built of piled stones without mortar. The fortification was naturally protected by steep cliffs and from its most accessible side (southwest) was protected by a stone wall.
At the rock of the fortress were found lots of cuts as trapezoidal niches, furrows, grooves, semicircles, etc. Under the fortress there is a large rock that looks like a giant mushroom, over which there are also Thracian niches with different orientation.
From the place there is a great view over the region.
