Monastery Assumption of St. Virgin (nunnery)
1 km south of the village of Kabyle is located Monastery (nunnery) "Assumption of Virgin Mary" (in Bulgarian: "Uspenie na Sveta Bogoroditsa") and a holy spring (ayazmo). The current monastery was built in 1928 around a spring, whose waters are considered healthy and were used since antiquity.
There are evidences that at this place there was a monastery from the ancient times. In Late Antiquity (IV - V century) Kabyle was a great religious and cultural center. During regime of Emperor St. Constantine the Great (IV century) there was founded a large monastery and the water from its spring was considered sacred.
The monastery existed until the fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule, when it was destroyed and the source was covered. At the end of XIX century the spring was discovered, and lost again until the 20-ies of XX century. The owner of the place with the healing spring was Stoyan Ganev from the village of Kabyle. He donated his land for construction of the monastery.
