Tsurnogorski monastery "St. Kozma and Damian" (aka "Giginski monastery" or "Chernogorski Monastery") is situated at the foot of Mount. Kitka (1118 m) in mountain in Cherna gora. The monastery is located about 4-5 km southeast of Gigintsi village, 16 km southwest of the town of Breznik and 52 km east of Sofia.
The monastery dates back to the XI-XII century, but then it was located at other place - at the foot of Mount Tumba (1129 m.), in the area named Kitka. Unlike almost all of the Bulgarian monasteries, Giginski monastery continued to function after the Ottoman conquest until the middle of the XVIII century when it was destroyed by the Turks. At the beginning of the XIX century it was rebuilt at its current location, because the healing spring (ayzmoto - the holy spring), which is located here.
The healing water springs from the roots of an old oak tree in the yard of the monastery and continues to collect a lot of people from different places of Bulgaria, who seeking remedy for eye diseases and stomach, kidney and bone diseases, problems with the endocrine glands. It is believed that who drink the water around the old oak strengthens the immune system, strengthens blood and calms the nervous system.
The most valuable building in the monastery is the church, built in 1814. It is a single nave, with two conchas, frescoes from the end of XIX century and drawings of the donors.
Nowadays the Giginski monastery is operational.
