Monastery of Reverend Petka Bulgarska
The Nunnery "Reverend Petka Bulgarska" is situated near the homonymous village of Koprivets (municipality of Byala, Ruse district). It is one of the newest Bulgarian monasteries, but it is suggests that during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom at the same place there was existed other monastery, which was the largest in the surrounding area of the medieval town-fortress of Cherven.
In the beginning of the Ottoman yoke the Koprivets monastery was destroyed (1388). In period 1987-1989 (last years of the socialism in Bulgarian) there was built new monastery. The decision for this was taken on 2 March 1989 by the Dorostolo-Cherven Diocesan Council. The inauguration was at October 14th, 1989 by Bishop of Smolyan Nestor (vicar of Dorostolski) and the Chervenski Bishop - Sophronius.
