The Roman town and fortress Tegulitsium was located around 4 km north of the center of nowadays village of Vetren (Silistra municipality). In Medieval times the fortress existed under the name Vetrinon (or Vetren). It was stretched at hill 300 meters long and 150 meters wide, at an altitude of about 90 m. The hill was situated near the banks of the Danube and there was a wide view of the region. The distance to the main stronghold in the region - Durostorum was about 20 kilometers.
The fortress was shaped as trapezium. Archaeological studies of Romanian archaeologists in 1915, discovered remains of wall which was 2.5 - 3 meters wide.
In the region were found many coins and artifacts. One of the most valuable finds is a Roman parade helmet.
