In Bulgarian: Асенова крепост »
The Asenova fortress is a late antiquity and medieval fortress located 2 kilometers southwest of the village of Klokotnitsa. Here, on March 9, 1230, Tsar Ivan Asen II defeated the armies of the Byzantine Emperor Theodore Comnenus.
The fortress was built on a hill between the rivers of Klokotnitsa and Gidikliyska. From its three sides the castle was naturally protected by the steep banks of the rivers, but it also had two rows and walls.
From the castle still can be seen the remains of walls that have been built of stone blocks bonded with white mortar.
Nowadays there is created an eco-trail with places for rest and fountains.
