The Fortress of Ghosts
The Ruins of Krepcha Kale (aka "The Fortress of Ghosts" or "Djin Kale") are located 2.6 km south-west of the village of Krepcha. The fortress is situated on Kale bair hill, on a cliff above the right bank of the river Kalakoch gully, at place where its tributary Bash bunar dere flows into it.
This is a late-antique fortress. It has irregular triangular shape with sharp corner from the north. The walls were massive, built of stones and mortar, mixed with crushed brick. From the West the castle was natural protected by a steep rocky slope. The entrance to the fortress was by the east side and was guarded by a tower and a moat about 10 meters wide. There were also towers on the south wall and most possible - a second gate.
This fortress has been creep many times by treasure-hunter, whose excavations are scattered throughout the region - both within and outside the fortress. Their digs were revealed small parts of walls of buildings and walls. Almost in the central part of the fortress was discovered a mound formed by the ruins of a large building. There are traces of Buildings also on the western slope, outside the town-walls.
Along the fortress there were 2 roads (from east and west) that were connecting it with other forts in the region as the fortress of Cherven and the "Big Krepcha Kale".
In 1969 Krepcha fortress was declared a monument of culture.
