Museum of Contemporary History
The Museum of contemporary history in Veliko Tarnovo is situated at Saedinenie square, next to the Museum of prison. There are displayed photos and exponents that show Veliko Tarnovo and its role in the life of Bulgaria after the Liberation.
The expositions trace out the most significant events took part in the town during this period: the 1-st Great National Assembly and the election of Alexander Batenberg as Bulgarian prince in 1879; the 2-nd Great National Assembly held in Svistov in 1881; the Union in 1885; the 3-rd Great National Assembly and the election of Ferdinand Sakskoburggotski for Bulgarian prince; the 4-th Great National Assembly in 1893; The proclamation of the independence on 22 September 1908; The 5-th Great National Assembly in 1911.
The accent is on the role of Stefan Stambolov as an eminent statesman of Modern Bulgaria.
