"Aleko Konstantinov" house-museum
The great Bulgarian writer Aleko Konstantinov was born on 1 January 1863 in the town of Svishtov. Today his house in Svishtov is converted into museum. The museum contains an interesting exhibition, recreating the most important moments of the short but rich of events life of the writer, the artist and the public figure - Aleko Konstantinov.
The house was established in 1926. While the writer was still alive, he granted his house to the municipality of Svishtov to be used for the cultural needs of the town. The house was renovated and restored inside and outside in a Renaissance style from the second half of XIX century. The interior of the building is impressive with its authenticity.
On the first floor of the house is exhibited a rich archaeological collection. On the second floor, an exposition of Aleko’s life and works is arranged. There is displayed a collection of objects and personal belongings of the writer related to different periods of his life, including his childhood and adolescence in this house. Its rich art is represented throw numerous books published both - in Bulgarian and foreign languages, into which they have been translated.
Among the most precious exponents is the heart of the writer, which is kept in a glass vessel filled with formalin.
Today, the house-museum "Aleko Konstantinov" in Svishtov is included in the list of The 100 national tourist sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union.
