The Tzepina fortress is situated in Rhodopes mountain, in the northeastern end of the Chepinska valley, some 6 km north-west of village of Dorkovo. It was built around IX century on a high rocky summit rising 1136 m above sea level.
In XII – XIII century, it was an important Medieval town-fortress. The outer walls cover surround an area of 25 decares. 3 churches and 4 precisely constructed water depots have been found and explored within the fortified territory. The main fortress walls, as well as the foundations of the churches and the water depots, have been restored and preserved. Now the fortress is in ruins.
Tsepina fortress is an archeological monument of culture of national importance.
