In the eastern part of town of Silistra were discovered remains of a large Roman villa,  dating back to II-IV century. It was built not far away of downtown (the Forum) of the ancient town-fortress Durostorum. In II-III century it was inhabited by wealthy aristocratic family.

At the end of III-th or middle of IV-th century the villa and Durostorum were destroyed and burned down by the Goths. At the end of IV-th century the town was restored and over the the ruins of the villa was built impressive massive public building - 17 x 20 m.
