Location: Town Sliven »
In Bulgarian: Крепост Туида »
The fortress Twidda is located on the "Hisarlaka" hill to the north-east of Sliven. It was built probably in the middle of IV century and was destroyed in XIII century.
The fortress was a part of the fortification system along the Balkan mountain and played important role in the defence of the Roman empire, and later on in the defence of the medieval Bulgarian kingdom.
During the excavation work were discovered parts of the fortress walls, turrets, the North and South gates, the foundations of dwellings, outhouses and military premises, remnants of Slavonic dwellings. In the eastern part of the castle were found remains of a cult complex with an imposing basilica.
