The remains of the fortress "Kavursko kale" are located 4km away from town of Devin. The fortress was situated on a high rock, naturally protected on three sides by cliffs. The fortress has amazing views to the region and the river below.
It is assumed that the fortress was constructed in the VI-X century. It is built of stones, cemented with white mortar. The walls were 1.5 meters wide. Nowadays are reserved parts of the eastern wall with a length of 50 meters and a height of about 50-70 cm. There are also remains of several square rooms or towers. There is a spring in the middle of the fortress, which is probably one of the reasons the facility to be built right here.
In the region were found parts of copies and iron arrows.
"Kavursko Kale" is one of the last fallen under Ottoman rule fortresses in the Rhodopes mountain.
