Borovets fortress

Borovets fortress is situated on the crest of Mount Golyam Borovets 4 kilometers north of of village of Razliv. It is an ancient, late antique and medieval fortress, which has had an important military and strategic importance. The location of the castle was allowed direct visual contact with other major strongholds in the region - Bojenski Urvich, Ostrom and Chertigrad. All of the fortresses were used to control and security the important roads, which are passed through the region.

The excavations of Borovets fortress still continue. The archaeologists have uncovered a powerful defense system, parts of rooms and different archaeological objects.
