Centuries-old elm tree

The centuries-old elm near village of Nisovo was (see below in the article) one of the oldest trees in the Ruse region. According to the experts, his age was more than 700 years. The elm was with a height of 18 m. and trunk - 5.54 m.
The place where is located can be reached by a route passing near a Christian graveyard from the XVII century, and then along the ponds - high in the mountain.
Unfortunately, in 2013 the tree was irreversibly damaged due to strong winds and waterlogging of the soil. The object was deleted from the state register of the ancient trees and excluded from the list of protected objects.
While it was a live the tree was called "The tree of wishes". According to legend, a young woman start seeing after she smeared his eyes with the juice of the elm.
In 2012 the ancient tree near Nisovo represented Bulgaria in the international competition "European Tree of the Year 2012".
It was decided that the old elm to remain at same place and do not do any activities for its removal.
