It is located in the central part of the city, not far away of the Sofia University, in close proximity to the Vasil Levski Memorial, the National Gallery of foreign Art and the Temple-monument Alexander Nevsky.
The area of the Botanical Garden is about 5000m2, of which near 500 m2 - conservatories. Here are grown over 1500 species of plants, among which several exotic species - beautiful tropical plants, cacti, orchids, ferns, bromelii, etc. Interest to the visitors are also a majestic oak (planted at the opening of the park), two meta-sequoias (transferred to Bulgaria by the academician Nikolai Stoyanov), an ancient Ginkgo tree with interesting leaves in form of fan, etc.
The garden is open all year round and is often used as place for outdoor lessons and exercises in Botany for undergraduates and high school students. There is a store in front of the entrance where everybody can buy rare plants, seeds, saplings of a secular oak and objects related to the Botany.
