In 2002 a group of local residents take initiative to preserve the ancient elm in the town as a cultural monument. In 2003, on the occasion of 125th anniversary of the town of Pavel Banya, the elm has become a monument. Talented local woodcarver Ivan Bubev carved beautiful wood-carving over the trunk.
