St.St.Kyril and Methodiy church
The church "St. St. Cyril and Metodiy" in Slivnitsa is located about 300 meters south of town center. The temple occupies an area of 2660 m2 and was built on land donated in 1878 by the locals Kalcio Georgiev Traykov and Mihalko Georgiev Simakov. Funds for the construction were donated by the richest inhabitant of the village in that time - the grandfather Paun (aka Dyado Pune - in his honor in Slivnitsa later was erected a monument of Dyado Pune).
Construction of the church lasted from 1878 to 1879 when it was illuminated by the Bishop Meletius from Sofia (at May 11 in old calendar style - the day of the creators of the Cyrillic alphabet - Cyril and Methodius).
The church "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" has dimensions of 25 m (length), 2m (width) and 5.50 m (height) and is a three-aisled basilica with semi-cylindrical vaulted ceiling and double-pitched roof. The height of the bell-tower is 9.50 meters. The icons and frescoes in the church are work of the masters Elijah Pefev and Grigor Dimitrov.
Near the church fence are situated the monuments of captain Vasil Danadzhiev and lieutenant Ivan Bobev - Bulgarian heroes who died in the fighting near Slivnitsa during the Bulgarian-Serbian war in 1885.
