The Boatin reserve has an area of 1597.2 ha and is located above the village of Divchovoto. This is the largest national reserve of beech trees. Besides beech here can be seen hornbeam, shestil, maple, aspen and others. The average age of the trees is more than 130 years, but there are also representatives which are more than 200 years old.
The Animal world is represented mostly by brown bear, owls, songbirds and almost all species of Bulgarian woodpeckers.
In 1977 Boatin was declared a biosphere reserve under the program "The Man and Biosphere" of UNESCO.
