The Dragoman marsh
The Dragoman marsh is located in the foot of the karst mountain Chepan, 1.5 km north-east of town of Dragoman in the direction to the village of Golemo Malovo. It occupies an area of about 350000m2.
The place was declared a reserve and there are more than 140 plant and 200 animal species (mainly birds). The swamp is a stop on the birds migration path Via Aristotelis. Here can be seen many different species such as Botaurus stellaris, Pandion haliaetus, Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), Short-toed Eagle (Circaetus gallicus ), Peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), Buteo rufinus, Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), Ferruginous Duck (Aythya nyroca), Himantopus himantopus, Corvus corax, White Stork (Ciconia ciconia) and others.
The place is very suitable for ecotourism, but is still undeveloped. Thanks to volunteers from the organization "Wildlife Society BALKANS" there is a eco-trail leading to the shelter for monitoring of the birds that inhabit the marsh.
