Boatin preserve
Boatin Preserve is located north of the Mount "Tetevenska Baba" in Stara Planina mountain, in the western part of the National Park Central Balkan, between the villages of Cherni Vit and Divchovoto. It was declared a reserve on June 12, 1948.
The preserve is located at 800 to 2000 m altitude in the valley of Boatinitsa river and almost all of its area is covered by forests. Here is one of the largest and preserved beech forests in Europe. The average age of trees here is between 130 and 200 years. Some of the trees reaching 50 meters in height. Widely distributed species is the Boatinski beech, reaching a height of 40 m. There are also hornbeam, shestil, maple, aspen and at the higher places - spruces and firs.
From the wildlife most common are deer, wild boars, foxes and others. The reserve is inhabited by brown bears - the largest predator in Bulgaria. There are a wide variety of songbirds, owls, and almost all types of woodpeckers that occur in Bulgaria. Most of them are included in the Red Book of Bulgaria.
