Museum of The national reconciliation
The "Garrison shooting ground" was part of former Sofia barracks, located south of the city center - today in borders of South Park. The buildings were constructed in the early 30s of XX century for the needs of the Sofia garrison and until 1969 have been used by the army, by the Civil organization for the defense (CML) and by some shooting clubs .
In 2003 part of the buildings are restored and turned into a "Museum of the political national reconciliation", dedicated to the victims of political violence in Bulgaria. Many of the exhibits are related to the poet Nikola Vaptsarov, who was shot here on July 23, 1942, together with other anti-fascists - Anton Ivanov, Anton Popov, Peter Bogdanov, Georgi Minchev, Atanas Romanov and others (12 people). Among the restored rooms is one of the shooting tunnels where the shooting was done.
In 2004 "The shooting garrison" was declared a cultural monument of national importance.
