5 October is the official holiday of the city of Stara Zagora. The date is related to Prince Alexander (Aleko) Bogoridi who at October 5, 1879 put the foundation stone for the reconstruction of Stara Zagora city after the ravages of the Russian-Turkish War (near Stara Zagora were held the most violent battles). So that date remains in the history of Stara Zagora and was accepted as an official holiday for the town.
