Lovech Public Holiday (11 May)
On May 11 the town of Lovetch celebrates its public holiday. For many years in this time of year Lovech was celebrating the so-called "Lilac celebrations". Furthermore, the melody of the famous hymn "Varvi narode vazrodeni", dedicated to the Slavic alphabet, was written in Lovech. These are the reasons, when in 1992 , the local government choose the date 11 May (in old style - the day of the Slavonic alphabet and the brothers Cyril and Methodius) for the official public holiday of Lovech.
The celebration begin several days before 11 May with events and activities such as concerts, exhibitions and sporting events. On the holiday date, the city government usually meet distinguished guests and presented the flowers to a monument in the town. There are also a holy mass and later (in the evening) fireworks celebration.
