Yane Sandanski is one of the most famous and beloved Bulgarian revolutionaries, member of IMRO and fighter for the liberation of Macedonia. He was born on May 18, 1872 in the village of Vlahi, which lies on the western slopes of the Pirin Mountains.
The revolutionary was killed on April 21, 1915. His grave is located above the village of Rozhen, about 200 meters from the Rozhen monastery. There is a church near the grave and on the tombstone is inscribed: "To live means to fight. Slave - for freedom and free - for perfection".
