Georgi Benkovski is great Bulgarian revolutionary from the National Revival, one of the leaders of the April Uprising 1876. This memorial is devoted to him and is located in area of Kostina (4km south-west of Ribaritsa), at place where Benkovski was shot dead and beheaded (12 May 1876) by the Ottoman policemen while trying to cross the bridge above the river. After the beheading the Turkish washed his head in the a well named later "The Bloody well" ("Karvavoto kladenche").
Each year on May 25 the area becomes a scene of commemorative evens. Actors reproduce the happenings just before Georgi Benkovski died.
