Architectural reserve Zheravna
Jeravna is a small village in eastern part of Stara Planina mountain. The village was founded in XII-XIV century and in the XVIII century it was crafts and cultural center. Nowadays Zheravna is declared an architectural reserve because the many (over 200) perfectly preserved houses, streets and buildings dating from the period of the Bulgarian Revival (XVII-XVIII century). Almost every house is declared a monument of culture.
Annually Zheravna attracts many tourists (more than half - foreigners) who remain fascinated by the preserved authentic Renaissance look of the village - narrow cobbled streets, one-and two-storey wooden houses surrounded by stone walls. Some of the houses have been turned into museums, among them are:
- house of the famous Bulgarian writer Yordan Yovkov
- house of Sava Filaterov (a famous person from the period of Bulgarian Revival)
- house of Rusi Chorbadji
and others.
Among the sights of Jeravna is also the Church "Saint Nicholay" (1834), which is still operational.
Architectural Reserve of Zheravna is included in the Hundred tourist sites of Bulgaria.
