Old town of Nessebar
The old town of Nessebur is located 30km north of Burgas, on a small peninsula in the Black Sea wich is linked with the land (the new Nessebar town) only by a long and narrow isthmus. It is one of the oldest towns in Europe founded around 3000 years B.C. by the Thracians and is considered the richest town in architectural monuments from the Middle Ages in Bulgaria. There are 23 churches and monuments from an Early Christian basilica to a domed Byzantine church - specimen, reflecting the archaeological and artistic influence of the Greek, Roman and Byzantine epoch.
Today the old Nessebar has regained its original romantic atmosphere: narrow cobblestone lanes, tiny squares, two-storeyed houses with stone-built ground levels and wooden upper floors jutting above the streets and external staircases, gift shops, pubs, tavern and lovely flower gardens. The town is one of the main tourists attractions on the Southern Black sea coast and especially for the tourists who spend their holiday in the sea resort of Sunny beach which borders from north of town of Nesebar.
