The National Museum of Archaeology in Sofia was officially opened to the public on May 18, 1905. It is hosted in an impressive old building - "Buyuk (Big) Mosque". The museum offers permanent Exhibitions disposed in Prehistory hall, Vault, Central Hall and Middle Ages Hall and also it host different temporary exhibitions.
There can be seen artifacts in three collections: the Old Ages (Antiquity) Collection, which included prehistoric, Thracian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Bulgarian and Turkish finds; a Numismatic Collection and an Ethnographic Collection.
