The Museum of the horse and equestrian sport in town of Stara Zagora was opened in 2010. It is a successor of the founded in 1971 by Professor Rangel Karaivanov "Museum of the Horse" which was housed in a building of Higher Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Sofia. This museum was later transferred to the experimental racecourse base in town of Stara Zagora, but because the lack of funds was closed later. In 2010, with help by the Trakia University in Stara Zagora and in on the occasion of 15 anniversary of the university, exhibits have been restored and transferred to the special building within the university.
Exposures are divided into 2 halls. In the small hall are shown exhibits of archaeological finds from the Bulgarian lands (including the Roman period), photos of horses bred in Bulgaria, a small set of literature associated with breeding horses and a collection of awards for Equestrian Sports.
In the second hall are displayed royal carriages, ammunition harness, saddles and symbols of princely and royal personages till 1946. Among the most interesting exhibits are some carriages with historical value such as:
- chariot of Prince Alexander Battenberg, made in 1879 by Parisian masters
- chariot of King Ferdinand, which the king was involved in military parades, made in London
- child carriage of Simeon
- a postal carriage, used for filming of the well-known Bulgarian movie "At every kilometer", and others.
Until their moving into museum, the chariots were kept by Bulgarian Cinematography and were used in various movies.
