In village of Ognyanovo (Elin Pelin municipality) was built a memorial in honor of the fallen for the freedom of Bulgaria. The conception and organization of this monument came from General Stefan Iliev Stefanov, who was mayor of the village.
Every year, on 2 September, the local people give flowers here to gratitude to those who died for the freedom.
