In town of Pazardzhik was erected a memorial of Ovanes Savadzhayan (1844-1906), who in 1878 was rescued locals from death and the town from burning. The monument is located near the bus station, not far away of the street bearing his name "Ovanes Savadzhayan" (the former "Armenian" street).
During the Russo-Turkish war for the liberation of Bulgaria Ovanes Savadzhayan was worked at telegraph station in Tatar Pazardzhik. The Russian troops entered the town and the commander of the Ottoman army - Suleiman Pasha, asks the Sultan for a permission to burn the town and to kill the people. Such authorization is obtained, but Ovanes Savadzhayan modifies the text and in this way saves the people and the town.
After the liberation Ovanes Savadzhayan is a temporary mayor of Pazardzhik, and later head of the train-station. He was declared a honorary citizen of Pazardzhik.
