Memorial complex Stara Zagora Defenders of 1877
The memorial to "Stara Zagora Defenders of 1877" (aka Memorial "Samarsko Zname") is located in a park in north-eastern part of city of Stara Zagora and is visible from almost anywhere in the city. It is dedicated to the battles for Stara Zagora from 31 July 1877, during the Russian-Turkish Liberation War. The Memorial was inaugurated in 1977, commemorating the centennial anniversary of the event.
The complex consists of 50-meter high concrete structure resembles a waving banner (Samarskoto Zname), an ossuary and statues of six Bulgarian volunteers and a Russian officer.
The "eternal fire" in memory of the perished heroes, which resembles the form of a bayonet, burns there.
