Monastery St.Atanasiy
It is believed that the monastery "St. Athanasius" near the village of Zlatna Polyana (15 km away of town of Chirpan) is the oldest in Europe. It was founded in 344 by St.Athanasios - one of the greatest enlightener for the purity of the Orthodox faith in these times. Studies in the Vatican archives confirm that Athanasius was present at synod in the ancient Serdika and after that he was staying near the village of Zlatna Polyana. The monastery built there was named after him.
The monastery has a sacred spring (ayazmo), which is located in the yard and is about 6 m in depth.
Other attraction of the monastery is Postnitsata (place where the monks have settled for Lent). It is located in rocks near the monastery. For a long time pilgrims and believers visit it for health and prosperity.
The main holiday of the monastery "St. Athanasius" is May 2.
