Nikolay Gyaurov (1929 - 2004) is a legendary Bulgarian opera singer, recognised as the best bass in the world. He was born in the village of Ladzhene, which nowadays is a quarter of the town of Velingrad. His grateful fellow-citizens have erected this monument in his honor.
