Church St. Marina
The Church of Saint Marina is located in the Centre of the town of Veliko Tarnovo, near to park "Marno поле" and the Primary school "Patriarch Evtimiy of Tarnovo". The Church was built in the XIX th century by the famous master Kolyu Ficheto. The temple was officially inaugurated in 1854 by a Greek prelate.
In its first version the temple was with single nave and with dimensions 26 x 10 metres. Close to the building, in the north side of the Church fence, there was a Bell Tower, with a special room for storage of valuable ecclesiastical possessions. After the strong earthquake in 1913 the Bell Tower begins to ruin. In 1931, began the reconstruction and renewal of the Church. It was built a new bell-tower, but now it is a part of the church building. The temple was fully painted by the great Russian painter Nikolay Rostovcev.
The Church has a beautiful iconostasis dating to 1850. It was made by wood-carvers from Tryavna. It is five-and-a-half metres long and five metres high. It is made by Walnut wood and has exquisite carvings.
In the temple there are many murals and icons with biblical scenes. Especially valuable among them are the icons "Jesus Christ" and "St. Virgin Mary with little Jesus".
