The Assumption of Holy Mary Temple
The Assumption of Holy Mary Temple in town of Petrich is the first Christian temple in the town. It was constructed in 1857, according to a sultan’s royal. The church was built by the best masters from Debar and Petrich and with voluntary labor of the entire population. Stone construction was carried by hand from the urban river, and the marble floor tiles were carried from the sleeve, where the ancient city of Petra.
The Assumption of Holy Mary Temple is an imposing stone building measuring 24 x 17.5 meters and 7.5 m in height. In 1922 the narthex was closed and turned into two small administrative offices. The Iconography dates from 1871 ab is a work of the painters from Debar - the brothers Hristo, Isakii and Kuzman Makarievi.
In 1981 a museum collection of 100 icons was opened in the museum. But in 1987 a fire devastated the temple and only part of the wall paintings outside the narthex were rescued.
In 1975 the Assumption of Holy Mary Temple in Petrich was declared a monument of culture of national importance.
